ANCHORAGE ARES

The Anchorage ARES group provides communication during emergency operations when other forms of public communications fail.  Please join us for the weekly ARES net Thursdays at 8:00 PM on the WL7CVG repeater.   Using even the simplest of radio setups and antennas, amateurs communicate with each other for fun, during emergencies, and even in contests. They handle messages for police and other public service organizations during all kinds of emergencies.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization, is eligible for membership in the ARES. The only qualification, other than possession of an Amateur Radio license, is a sincere desire to serve. Because ARES is an amateur service, only amateurs are eligible for membership. The possession of emergency-powered equipment is desirable, but is not a requirement for membership.

Command Communications Vehicle (CCV):

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service in Anchorage is fortunate to have a mobile command center vehicle. The CCV is available for public service events and emergency operations.

Radios in the CCV include: Ham Radio: HF, VHF/UHF, APRS, Packet, ALMR, Aviation, Marine, GMRS, Satellite, and many other modes.

ARES Training:

The Anchorage ARES usually meets monthly on the third Saturday of the month.  We have changed our location and will no longer be meeting at APU.  We will be meeting at the KL7AA Ham Radio shack at 5923 Rowan Street.  Training begins at 0930 and usually includes monthly emergency training.
